Meeting minutes for 2018
January 2018
Ralph Zarnick, president, called the January 14, 2018 meeting to order. Old Business – None New Business – There will also be a “Clock Day” held on January 21 from 12pm to 4pm at the Solon Historical Society. - Tom Borkowski announced that the Regional is ready for us. He reminded us that the exhibit this year is entitled, “Behind the Dial”. - We had 4 new members - Brad &Mindy Howell and Carl & Sandy Hosfeld Program of the Day -- The program was presented by Jack Brazzon. It was about his 2-week vacation to Germany touring cuckoo clock manufactures. Jack showed a dvd of “The History of Cuckoo Clocks and The Making of Cuckoo Clocks”. Our next regular meeting will be March 18
Old Business – None New Business – There was a “Clock Day” held on January 21 from 12pm to 4pm at the Solon Historical Society. Good turnout. Good reviews. - Tom Borkowski announced that the Regional is ready for us. He reminded us that the exhibit this year is entitled, “Behind the Dial”. - On June 10, the Chagrin Falls Historical Society will host a “Clock Day” - Mayfield Heights would also like to have a “Clock Day” Details will be worked out later - The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is undergoing massive renovations. This puts to question the status of the Foucault Pendulum which was built and donated by Jerome Griesmer and the late Everett Jones. Program of the Day -- The program was presented by Tom Borkowski and Jeff Ring presenting a program on lathe design and the various attachments used on lathes. They showed and discussed various methods of holding and making parts on lathes. They discussed cutting tool designs. They demonstrated making a bushing on a Unimat 3 lathe. Polishing pivots and dealing with bent pivots was also discussed. This was a well-received program. Thanks Tom and Jeff.
Old Business – none New Business - Tom Borkowski announced that the Regional did not do as well as hoped. A short discussion concerning how to reduce costs was held. It was decided that the September meeting will deal specifically with cost cutting. In the meantime members are to make suggestions. - The members were informed that November is election time for the chapter. The offices of vice president, secretary, treasurer, and 2 directors are open. Anyone wanting to have their name on the ballot are to contact Ginny Sims, secretary. - We were told of the diminishing National membership and attendance at the Regional and local meetings. Program of the Day -- The program was a DVD of the “Engle Monumental Clock” It is one of the most captivating mechanical clocks in existence. It is on display at the National Museum.
September 2018 Old Business – none New Business - Tom Borkowski announced that the Regional did not do as well as hoped. A discussion concerning how to reduces costs such as limiting or eliminating the Table holder's dinner, possibly increasing table fees, or cutting back on security. - It was decided to keep the tailgate and to set out “donation” boxes. It was also discussed that we might partner up with another collector’s group such as train collectors to help defray costs. - It was decided that we will contact the National and offer our help during the 2020 National Convention in Dayton, Ohio. This could help with costs in that the National pays the worker chapters for their help. This was made into a motion which was passed by a show of hands. - Ronnie Kirsch donated $100 to Chapter 28. Many thanks to Ronnie for his thoughtfulness and generosity. - At our November meeting, there will be the election of officers. We need a Vice president, secretary, treasurer, and 2 directors. Candidates name should be sent to the secretary so that the name can be placed on the ballot. Please sent them by November 1 Program of the Day A DVD of the Walking Tour of the American Clock and Watch exhibit in Bristol Connecticut during the 2017 Regional which was held in Syracuse, New York. Business - It was
announced that the Holiday Inn has offered to let us use a smaller room for
our regular meetings in order to save money.
- The 2019 Regional might be moving to the Akron
Hilton. It was voted on to move once the final details can be arranged.

- At our November meeting, there was the election of
officers. The results were:

May (undecided); July 14; September 15; November 10

Christenson gave a presentation on How to Repair an Anniversary Clock”.
James gave us some history of the clocks and
