March 2022 Minutes from the March 6, 2022 meeting of Chapter 28 Lake Erie Chapter #28 had its first regular meeting in two years on March 6, 2022. President Doug Rinearson chaired the meeting. 49 members attended the Mart and 27 stayed for the lunch and business meeting. Jeff Ring, treasurer, gave an updated financial report. The primary purpose for this meeting was to determine the format for future meetings. It was decided by a 15 to 11 vote to have the regular meetings on Sunday. Getting new members was discussed at length. It was also decided to have a workshop during the Mart at each meeting and an educational presentation right after the brunch. At the next meeting we will have the Mart from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Brunch will be served at 11:30 AM. Following the Brunch will be the Program of the Day. The title of the program will be "Show and Tell". Bring in your favorite tool, bring in your idea of a short cut to repairing, or bring in your knuckl- biting problem and ask for help. Any one may participate. We will have the election of officers at the November meeting.
January 2020 The meeting was attended by 50 members with 20 staying for brunch, business meeting and program. The main subject of the meeting was about finding a more reasonably priced venue. Several options were discussed. Frank Del Greco updated us on the recent changes at the NAWCC headquarters. The program was a DVD entitled "Chelsea Automotive, Ship and Aircraft Clocks" originally given by Mark Dusky in 1997. What made the program more interesting was the presence of Mark himself. He gave an update of his collection activities and a show and tell of several Chelsea ship clocks and automobile clocks. He said that was entertaining to see himself in a 23 year old video. ---Ginny Sims, Secretary Chapter 28, NAWCC The program for the March 8, 2020 meeting will be a DVD entitled "MILITARY WRIST WATCHES" by Lehr Dircks. Lehr gave this presentation in 2001 at the wrist watch symposium, in Covington, Kentucky. Special Notice: Immediately after our meeting is over, the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club will be having a "Chili Cookoff. If you decide to stay for the festivities, it will cost you $10. The proceeds go to fund various charities for the veterans. At 2 am on March 28, set your clocks ahead 1 hour for daylight saving time. ---GINNY SIMS, secretary Chapter 28 NAWCC 724-253-2914 resttime@earthlink.net Website: nawcc28.org
November 2019 At the regular meeting of Chapter 28, with Doug Rinerson presiding, the main topic and Program of the Day dealt with the results and discussion of the 2019 Regional. Old Business ***The 2019 North Coast Regional was held at the Akron Hilton-Fairlawn and was a success. ***We sold out all tables and could have sold at least 15 more. ***A majority of comments from attendees was positive. They liked the time of year and the location. We will be having the 2020 Regional there and will be using the Presentation Room from this year as table space, giving us approximately 15 more tables capacity. ***The Akron Visitors Bureau promised to provide more exposure next year. New Business ***This years Regional made money but the year will be in the red due to the costs incurred at our meetings. Motions were made and carried for the following: 1) We will eliminate the May and November meetings due to conflicts with several Regionals and the National. This alone should put us back in the black for the year. 2) Doug Rinearson and Brad Howell will check with VFWs in our region to see what their fees are and if breakfast/brunch is offered and prices. Earl Harlement from Buckeye Chapter 23 mentioned at our Regional that they have moved their bimonthy meetings to several different VFWs in their area. It has saved them a lot of money and the accommodations are good. 3) We will start the meetings at 9 AM rather than 8 to help those that travel a long way to attend. We will also negotiate with the hotel regarding fees since we are eliminating an hour of time. ***The annual Twinsburg Historical Society "Roadshow" will be held on Sunday November 24th. Members are encouraged to attend to help with identifying/ evaluating watches and clocks for the public. ---Ginny Sims, secretary Chapter 28 NAWCC 724-253-2914 resttime@earthlink.net

Old Business -- none New Business -- It was officially announced that the North Coast Regional will be moving to the Hilton Fairlawn Hotel in Akron, Ohio. It will be held on October 18 and 19. Some of the small details are to be resolved yet such as final schedule of events and the list of lectures or demonstrations. These details will be announced at a later date when they will be published on our website. The discussion was lively . Program of the Day -- A DVD of the “Calendar Clock” narrated by M.R. Shunk was presented. This DVD showed that many clockmakers were involved in making a calendar clock. Everyone thinks of the name Ithaca when they hear calendar clock, but other companies like Seth Thomas, Waterbury, Welsh, and Ingraham were also in the business during the mid- to late 1800’s ----Respectfully submitted , Ginny Sims, secretary Chapter 28 NAWCC
